Chapter 9 Reminiscent

2 days after the incident regarding Selyn, They found a body of a man inside the noble's mansion and currently Lord Ressy is missing and i found it very strange because i left his body in front of the Empire's building, but then i remembered the strong gaze that night, i suspect the one giving me that gaze has something to do with the noble's corpse disappearance. Currently, me and Lia are both having a stroll inside the Empire's building.

"Hey, Lia where are we going?" I tilted my head and asked.

"Of course we are going to investigate!" She answered while puffing her chest.

"Ha? About what?"

"The weird incident 2 days ago, where a dead body was found inside Lord Ressy's mansion and why Lord Ressy suddenly disappear" She replied with beaming eyes, i guess it's okay since i didn't leave any trace or evidence so even she try her best to play as a detective she won't be able to uncover anything.

"Well, where do you plan to start?" It's impossible for us to go to the noble's mansion because currently locked down for full investigation. Of course it made a large commotion in the Empire because you're not supposed to find a dead body inside the most secured place in Entros.

"We'll since we can't go to the place of the crime, we should visit the soldier's family" I was surprised by her words, even in my past life i didn't bother to visit a dead soldier's family because i feared that the families of those soldiers who died under my command would blame me.

"Well, i'm sure they'll be surprised if they see us, but first we should change our clothes in appropriate attire."  I guess it 's best to follow the culture of this world that you need to wear black clothes and don't wear anything that look likes you're going to a party or anything related to that.

Lia and I went back into our own Mansions to change our clothing, then after roughly an hour we met in front of my place.

"Both of you, don't do anything rude while you're there okay? Be respectful to the family of the deceased" My mother didn't forget to remind me.

"Yes mama~" Lia's the one who gave the response.

"Mama?" I asked in perplex, but mother just laugh at my reaction.

"Fufu. Sometimes it's not good to be so insensitive. Right Lia?" My mother winked at me then turned her attention to Lia.

"Mama is right Flint." Lia looked at me with a big smile.

"Well, whatever" I ignore those two who are currently laughing with each other and checked the small bag that contains some silver and gold coins that my mother gave me earlier.

We're going to give the money to the family of the deceased. It is the last salary of the guard who died...... I began to feel bad while thinking that i'm about to meet them.

My mother escorted us into the Empire building's gate, since a prince and a princess are going out, there are currently a lot of guards that's going to escort us to our destination and in our way back. Currently, there are 30 guards waiting for us.

"Then mother see you later." I gave my goodbye to my mother then she came and kissed my and Lia's forehead"

"Be careful, okay~" She told us those words while worrying, i can see tears accumulating into her eyes. Oh, mother, we're not going to war and i'll see you later tonight so stop worrying.

Lia and I went into the carriage and we began moving while some of the guards mounted their horses and follow us.

"Hey, Lia, why do you want to investigate that incident and can you please stop holding my arms I'm not going to run away you know?" I 'm just curious so i asked Lia while she's hugging my arms.

"Ah! Don't you find it strange? Why would Lord Ressy kill his one of the most trusted guards and why would he bribe the guards that were guarding the gates. So I think the Beastkins that came a few days ago has done something to him."  Well, actually i'm the mastermind of the incident, but of course I can't tell her that and the guards that got bribed were immediately executed for misconduct and leaving their post during duty.

"Well, Something must have happened, but we can't get any information by visiting the family of the dead guard." I gave her my opinion, it's not that i don't want to see them but if you think carefully you shouldn't start investigating at that place.

"Actually, That guard's wife is one of our maids in the mansion." Lia said in a saddened voice. Now i'm beginning to understand her purposed, she must have felt sorry for the wife so she decided to go visit and comfort her.

I'm starting to feel more and more sorry.

After roughly two hours, we reached a certain house in the western city of Entros. It's a wooden house that gives you a feeling that the people living inside were commoners, the house is only one story with a 25 feet height. It wasn't painted with anything and if you peek inside there actually no Furnitures inside.

One our guards went inside and to get the wife of the deceased while me and lia went outside the carriage then wait for the wife.

"Oh Princess Lia, please come inside"  A woman in her mid 30's went outside to greet us and urged us to go inside. She had a gentle expression, but you can see that she's suffering inside.

After we went inside i saw a wooden coffin inside the house and some relative that are mourning. There are many sets of seats inside so we decided to seat and edge of the house. After i went to my seat Lia is still talking to Cren, by the way Cren is the name of the wife, I just greet her and went straight to my seat because it's giving me some weird feeling just by talking to her.

While waiting for Lia a small girl came and talk to me.

"Hey~" A small girl, maybe at the age 4 is currently in front of my view.

"Hi." after i respond to her, she a handed me some cookies and gave me a small cup of coffee, it seems like she's currently distributing it to everyone as a thanks for coming.

"Thank you, " I thank the small girl that has a hazelnut hair, then she smiled brightly at me and went to other people to distribute the cookies.

"Seems like Nea liked you~" Cren came near me together with Lia.

"Is she perhaps...." I asked her but i felt a sudden pain and didn't continue my words.

"She's our daughter" She answered me while giving a soft smile.

"I'm sorry...." at that moment i realized something.

"It's okay, i know the risk of being a knight i was already prepared for something like this when i got married to Ramos" She said those words, but her tears began to fall from her eyes but she still maintained her smile while looking at me. Lia hugged her.

"It's okay Cren you still have me and the other maids in the mansion," Lia said those words while looking sad. After a few moments, she took Cren's hand and pulled her into one of the rooms inside the house. Lia wants to talk to her and comfort her so she decided to talk to her alone.

While seated alone on the edge of the house, I began to remember the memories of my past life.

I killed a lot of soldiers and even civilians i never thought about what might their family is going through after they see the missing heads of their loved ones or tattered body of their husbands and fathers. As i soldier, i was refined as a weapon to fight for the sake of my country while believing we are in the side of right. Those people that i killed will never again feel the joy to see their sons and daughters nor feel the warm embrace of their wife. I took the chance of their children to feel the love of a Father and they'll grow without ever experiencing a joy of a complete family.

I looked at the girl with a hazelnut hair named Nea who's currently giving the people a gentle smile while distributing the cookies, I took the life of her father and now she have to live the rest of life without feeling the love and joy of having a father. I took her father's life without even thinking of the results and in her darkest days there will be no father to support her and her mother has to handle all of the responsibility.

I began to have the feeling of regret. I was given a rare chance to live again and instead of correcting all my mistakes in my past life all i did was try to forget those horrible things that i did in the past. Instead of learning the lessons of my mistakes i decided to continue my life as a killer.

Now Nea has to live her life just like me in my past life. Living a life  while deep inside seeking for a father's love and feel a sad envy to anyone who can feel the warmth of their own fathers.

I can't keep on living the way I was in the past. I need to at least change myself for Mother and Lia i don't want them to suffer because of my mistakes.
